Is the Atlanta City Pass worth it?

If you plan to visit Atlanta, you want to know how you can indulge in sightseeing while keeping the cost low. Atlanta city is known for attractions like the CNN building, Georgia Aquarium, Grant Park, MLK Center, and many others.  Whether you are interested in nature, history, sports, or cultural icons, there is so much more to see in this southern gem. Sightseeing in the A-town isn’t cheap, but with the Atlanta CityPASS, you can save some bucks while exploring the top attractions.

 

What’s Atlanta CityPASS and How Does It Work?

 

If you want to know what’s all about Atlanta CityPASS, as the name suggests, it is a pass or a card that allow you to save money while you visit the best attractions in Atlanta. You purchase the pass at a set price and get admission to five of the leading seven Atlanta attractions. You will have three of those seven attractions included in the pass, but you have to choose the remaining two from the four options available. The price of Atlanta CityPASS is usually less than what you would pay if you chose to visit the attractions without the pass. You can save up to 40 percent on admission fees when you have the pass. The pass is available in form of a booklet containing tickets to the attractions. If you purchase online, you can be mailed the booklet or you get a voucher that you will need to exchange for the booklet once you arrive in Atlanta.

 

After you get the booklet, you have to activate it by presenting it to the attendants at the attractions. Your first attraction where you use the tickets activates the pass. When you have this pass, you can skip ticket lines because you use the tickets in the booklets as the actual tickets for some of the attractions. In some attractions, you may have to exchange the tickets in the booklet for entry tickets before you gain admission to the attractions. Like the Seattle CityPASS, the Atlanta CityPASS, once activated will be valid for nine days. You have to use the tickets within that timeframe. Looking at nine days of sightseeing, there is so much to do and see in the ALT.

 

How Much Does Atlanta CityPASS Cost?

 

The price of the CityPASS is as follows:

  • Adult pass $76 plus tax – valued at $126
  • Child pass $61.00 plus tax – valued at 101

 

How Much Do You Save With Atlanta CityPASS?

 

The pass for adults goes for $76 and with the regular price of attractions costing $126, you can save roughly $50. For kids, the pass costs $61 and the regular price for the attractions is $101 meaning they save about $40.  Remember these prices may change so you want to update yourself with the current prices.

 

When you look at these prices, you can see that using Atlanta CityPASS can save you up to 40 percent off regular prices of admission when visiting all five attractions and you select the most expensive of the choices for the last two attractions. The most expensive of the choices are Zoo Atlanta and College Football Hall of Fame. In the event that you choose the two attractions with lower prices, you are still able to save about $36 percent.

 

Okay, let’s assume that you visit the Aquarium and other two attractions, assuming that you are not going to take much of your time in sightseeing, you find that the pass pays for itself and saves you some dollars. If you get the chance to visit a fourth attraction, it saves you even more.  The best thing is to try to visit at least the five attractions, that’s how you can make the most of the Atlanta CityPASS.

 

Attractions You Can Visit with Atlanta CityPASS

 

When you have the Atlanta CityPASS, you can marvel at:

  • The World of Cola Cola
  • The Georgia Aquarium
  • The CNN Studio Tours

 

You also have a choice to visit between Center for Civil and Human Rights and Zoo Atlanta or College Football Hall of Fame and Fembank Museum of Natural History. You may probably want to know what to expect from the attractions.

 

World of Coca-Cola

 

If there is one spot you can’t afford to miss is the World of Coca-Cola, the most iconic beverage in America. In this attraction, you get to see Coca-Cola artifacts that date back 125 years while also exploring the bottling process. You also have the opportunity to see the location where the Coke’s secret formula is housed, that’s the vault. At the World of Coca-Cola, you can experience the multisensory 4-D theater, the smallest bottling line worldwide, a 1880s soda fountain, and a sampling of over 70 different beverages. You also taste Coca-Cola beverages at their place of origin. Admission to World of Coca-Cola gives you a free Coca-Cola beverage just to quench your thirst.

 

Georgia Aquarium

 

The massive exhibits at Georgia Aquarium gives you a chance to see ocean creatures including beluga whales, sharks, dolphins, penguins, sea lions, sea otters, and exotic fish. This is an ideal spot for the family as they get to see what the aquarium has to offer. Using the Atlanta CityPASS allows you to gain entry to the most famous galleries at the aquarium including the two special exhibits Sea Lions and AT&T Dolphin Celebration under the boardwalk. You also sample the 4D Funbelievable Theatre.

 

CNN Studio Tours

 

You know CNN as a major world class news broadcasting channel and you would of course want to see what happens behind the scenes. This is the right spot to be if you are in Atlanta, it gives you a chance to see how a news broadcast is brought live from the CNN’s headquarters. A 50-minutes tour with a guide will ensure that you learn everything you want to know regarding CNN news production and broadcasting. There is also a giant escalator along with an interaction studio just to add on to the perks at this attraction. From the interactive studio, you can see yourself on the giant news screen. Note that although you will save money with the Atlanta CityPASS when you visit CNN studios, it won’t help in skipping the line. You have to present the voucher or booklet at the box office so that you are issued with a timed-ticket. The CNN Studio Tour is among the popular tours in the city, so they oftensell out. You may want to make a reservation for your spot.

 

Attractions Choices for the Atlanta CityPASS

 

If you want to wait until you arrive in Atlanta so that you select the last two attractions out of the four available ones that is taken care of with the CityPASS.

 

Zoo Atlanta

 

This attraction is a favorite for kids, there are over 1000 animals to see including great apes, giant pandas, and Guatemalan bearded lizard. The petting zoo is also a great addition to what you can sample in this spot.  The only twin pandas found in the United States, Xi Lun and Ya Lun were born in September 2016 at Zoo Atlanta. This attraction offers year-round fun events for example Boo at the Zoo, Brew at the Zoo, and Gorilla Egg Hunts. Kids have a great time riding the train and cooling off the fountain splashes. You can enjoy the express entry gate to save yourself time when you have the Atlanta CityPASS.

 

Center for Civil and Human Rights

 

TripAdvisor names the Center for Civil and Human Rights a top five attraction in Atlanta.If you want to learn more about the American Civil Rights Movement including highlights of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. this is the place to be. This is a serious attraction you don’t want to overlook when using the Atlanta CityPASS. Visitors have insight into the civil rights events and icons of the 50s and 60s. You can check the art, videos, and interactive screen shows of the civil right movement.

 

A display of personal effects belonging to Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. is probably one of the biggest highlights you can see.  This cultural attraction offers a connection of America’s Civil Rights Movement to Global Human Rights Movements. There are stories of audacity and inspiration you will hear and see when you visit this attraction in downtown Atlanta. Of course, you want to see the amazing design works of HOK and the Freelon Group collaboration that has created a unique landmark.  Remember that the Atlanta CityPASS won’t save you the queue here, you have to follow the line to get admission to the cultural attraction.

 

Fernbank Museum of Natural History

 

Visiting the Fernbank Museum of Natural Historygives you a rare treat to experience a world of fun filled and an exciting adventure. There are liver animals, hands-on science explorations, cultural artifacts, and dinosaur fossils. The 5-story Fernbank IMAX theatre along with the rotating exhibits makes things even more fascinating. Kids will have a nice time here with the 75 acres of space of outdoor exhibits. Note than the Atlanta CityPASS does not grant you admittance to the Giant Screen Theatre, so you will have to use the coupon that is found in the ticket booklets to get a discount for the admission.

 

College Football Hall of Fame

 

For the football fans, the Helmet Wall at the College Football Hall of Famehas over 765 helmets of college teams. The indoor playing field offers you a great tour where you can learn more about football through the various exhibits. Not only that, in the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl Skill Zone, you can get active by testing your football skills and agility. The Game Day Theatre offers you an opportunity to catch a 4K film.

 

What Are Benefits of Having Atlanta CityPASS?

 

When you purchase the pass there are numerous benefits you get while visiting the different top attractions in Atlanta.

 

Saves you cash: You save up to 40 percent in admission price to attractions featured in the pass. Just make sure you visit at least four or all the five attractions.

 

Saves time: You won’t have to wait in ticket lines, you can skip the lines in some of the attractions. But remember some attractions won’t allow that, you have to line up for the admission ticket.

 

More discounts: Besides the tickets that come at a discounted price, there are lots of other discounts you enjoy with the pass. For example, there is a coupon for $3 that is discount for admission to Zoo Atlanta, College Football Hall of Fame, and Center for Civil and Human Rights. A $4 discount is offered for the Fernbank Museum of Natural History. If you want to see the Giant Screen movie, you can enjoy a $5 price instead of $8. Other savings are discounted zoo rides and gift shop coupons.

 

Nine days of sightseeing: With the pass valid for nine days, you can explore all the five attractions at your pace.

 

When is Atlanta CityPASS an Ideal Choice?

 

Although people visit Atlanta for different reasons, if you are looking forward to sightseeing, the pass is a great choice. You may also want to get the pass if:

  • You’re visiting Atlanta for the first time and want to sample what the city has to offer including the top sightseeing spots
  • You’re a family and want to save money on attractions. For example, a family of four can save about $180 if they visit the five attractions.
  • If you plan to visit the iconic Georgia Aquarium plus other 3 attractions, you can benefit from the pass. Since this Aquarium is pretty expensive, using the pass saves you more than half its regular price.
  • You want to spread out your sightseeing activities you will need to have the pass. You have nine days meaning you can line up the attraction choices in 3 days and spend time touring other places.

 

While you may want to have Atlanta CityPASS, there are some visitors that might not find it a suitable choice. For example, if you are not interested in sightseeing or visiting the Georgia Aquarium, you might not need it. The Aquarium saves you the most of your bucks.  Going for the higher ticket items saves you more, but you have to know what each attraction offers you. You may not be interested in some of the attractions, especially the ones you have to choose, so choose wisely.

 

Also, if you cannot manage to visit at least 4 attractions, again, having the Atlanta CityPASS may not help you. To help get the most, make sure you don’t skip the Aquarium and you choose the last two expensive attractions that’s Zoo Atlanta along with the College Football Hall of Fame.  Keep the tickets in the booklet intact; don’t tear them until the attendant at the entry points to the attractions does that. Once you get the voucher, you will have six months to exchange it for the ticket booklet. The booklet you purchase remains valid for 12 months.
