Japan is an incredibly beautiful country. The country is witness to four beautiful seasons, each of with their own strong points.
The spring season is one of the best times to visit Japan. The weather is warm, but not hot, there is not much rain. The months of March and April ring in the popular cherry blossoms (sakura). This is a festive season, a great time to bond with friends, and enjoy to your heart’s content. The end of the April and the beginning of May, is called the ‘Golden Week’ in Japan; this is the festive period marked with number of public holidays. Traffic is at its peak at this period. Expect trans, hotels and even sight seeing spots to be overcrowded, so you have to book in advance
The summer season begins the onset of rains known as baiu or tsuvu in the months of June. By the time, it is June and August, there is a lot of humidity in the air, and the temperatures can reach as high as 35 to 36 degree Celsius. This is the time to go the northern places like Hokkaido or mountainside area of Tohuku and Chubu. But things aren’t that bad, it is still a festive season, and you can enjoy a lot of fireworks shows too.
The autumn season starts September, it is a great time to be in Japan. The humidity is lower and the colors of the fall are as good as the ones that feature cherry blossoms in the spring. If there is anything you have to watch out for, it is the possibility of typhoons in early autumn, which is known to hit the southern parts of Japan.
In the winter season, you can enjoy skiing or even hopping in the hot springs. One of the best places to stay during this time of the year is Okinawa. Most of North East Japan and Hokkaido tend to freeze to blasts of snow wind coming from Siberia. The Pacific Coast of Honshu where most major cities in Japan are located have milder winters, compared to the one near the Sea of Japan coast. So, you may get light rain in Osaka but snowing in Kyoto.
If you have to ask me as a tourist which would be the best time to visit Japan, my picks would be spring or autumn.
