The town of Morni in the Indian state of Haryana is known for its breathtaking scenery, including vistas of the Himalayas and rare plant life. Morni Hills, on the fringes of Panchkula district, draws visitors from all across India. The hills are full of lush trees and vegetation, allowing you to be in the lap of nature, a far cry from the humdrum of city life.
Legend has it that two thousand years ago, a queen by the name of Morni once ruled this territory, thus the name to these hills. In the 15th century, the area around the Morni Hills was home to Rajput Thakurs.
In the wake of the Thakurs, the Mughals took control, but they didn’t stay in power for long because of the rise of the British. The British Raj didn’t really think much of these hills; it was only after India attained freedom that the area began showing signs of development from a tourism perspective.
The tourism agency of the Indian state of Haryana began developing and exploring Morni hills, and it quickly became a popular destination for hikers, bikers, and other outdoor enthusiasts from all over the country. Of late, the Haryana Government started creating a driveable link from the Morni Hills to the Haryana State Highway in close proximity to Panchkula. Morni is linked to Chandigarh and the surrounding cities by three additional roads.
Morni Hills is an underrated tourist destination in India. People in Haryana tend to ignore it in favor of going to more well-known destinations because it is the lone hill station in the state. But you absolutely have to go to Morni Hills if you prefer to explore places that aren’t very well known.
The Haryana Tourism Department has been committed to make Morni Hills, a preferred travel destination. The famous Mountain Quail Resort has been opened by the Haryana Tourism department to attract more visitors to the state.
If you are an avid traveler and want to experience nature at its serene best, you really must really visit this place.
It only takes around an hour and a half to two hours to drive to Morni Hills from Chandigarh.
The Tikkar Taal is the primary point of interest in Morni Hills. It features a big camping and picnic field that is equipped with outdoor seating, a very high fountain, picnic amenities, boating, a parasol, a cafe, and cobblestone walks.
In addition to the pleasant experience of boating, there is also a little rope bridge activity that adventurous adults and children can participate in. Eat at the cafe right by the water, offering splendid views of the lush terrain.
Visit the Adventure Park if you can. You will find climbing adventures on very basic, yet challenging bar handles, as well as activities involving ropes. The experience is elementary yet fascinating. However, the mosquitoes may be a nuisance, so using a repellent can be helpful,
Then, make sure to stop by the tiny museum/learning centre that is located six kilometers away from the Tikkar Taal. The tiny museum and fort are kept in surprisingly good condition, which comes as a pleasant and unexpected surprise.
Morni Hills also has something to offer those who have an interest in history.
On the highest point of the Morni hills sits a massive fort that offers a panoramic view of the surrounding area, including the village of Morni. The atmosphere is made more tranquil by the abundance of vegetation that covers the Morni fort, particularly the trees and flowers that can be seen in the distance
It is generally agreed upon that the Morni fort was built some time around the 17th century.
A vibrant temple that is devoted to Lord Shiva can be seen right next to the fort, and it provides a striking contrast to the otherwise dreary environment that the fort creates.
As it is home to a stunning temple known as Thakurdwara Temple, Morni Hills has the potential to serve as the ideal location for a retreat for the religiously inclined. It consistently draws a sizable number of worshipers to its serenity. As evidenced by its ancient stone sculptures, this temple is thought to have been constructed during the time of the Pandavas.
When visiting Morni, Haryana, one of the best places to see is the Gurudwara Nada Sahib.
For Sikhs, this gurudwara is of the utmost importance. Visitors of all faiths flock to Gurudwara Nada Sahib to worship with the local Sikh community. This beautiful gurudwara lies on the banks of Ghaggar River. The locals think that Guru Gobind Singh rested here on his way from Paonta Sahib to Anandpur Sahib in 1688, following the battle of Bhangani.
