Diamond beach in Iceland – How to get there

The Diamond Beach in Iceland, around 45 minutes away from Stokksness, is a sight to behold.

In Iceland, the name Diamond Beach comes from the crystalline ice chunks that sit on a dark beach because they look like sparkling diamonds.

The tide and the number of icebergs in Iceland’s Jokulsarlon Lagoon influence the number of “diamonds” on this beach.

Ice chunks can be of varying sizes and proportions, some small, some mid-sized and some as tall as a person. Jökulsárlón Ice Lagoon is about 250 metres away from Diamond Beach if you’re visiting the area.

There is a breathtaking view of icebergs crashing into the ocean from a neighboring glacier. Climbing on the enormous ice chunks is not recommended, as is swimming in the frigid water. It’s preferable to look at the ice, than tripping over its jagged edges and slick surfaces. The little icebergs that wash up on this black basalt beach from a nearby lake look like diamonds on black velvet thanks to the lake’s crystal clear waters.

Diamond-like icebergs of varied sizes and hues of blue and white are scattered around the landscape.  This beach is sure to keep you busy with its romantic appeal and making you click pictures by the dozens.  If you want to observe Icelandic seals and orcas, head to Diamond Beach, which is one of the greatest spots in the country to do so.

In the winter, Diamond Beach is a great place to look for the aurora borealis because there is less light pollution. However, make sure you bring some light with you, the visibility may be poor, and you don’t want to trip over any ice blocks that may be present.

 How to get to the Diamond Beach in Iceland

To go to Diamond Beach, you’ll need to rent a car and drive yourself there. You can also join a minivan or a minibus tour to visit the place along with other beaches

Take in Iceland’s majestic vistas, gushing waterfalls, and magnificent scenery as you drive along the Ring Road to the south coast. The journey to Diamond Beach is a significant part of the fun.

With no breaks, travelling to Diamond Beach is around 370 kilometres (230 miles) from Reykjavk.

From Diamond Beach, all you have to do is cross the street to get to Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon.

The Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon is one of Iceland’s most popular tourist attractions.
