Apart from simply hanging out at the square, taking pictures, selfies and watching musicians play bagpipes, you can also visit the following –

Prague Astronomical Clock
Prague Astronomical Clock
  • Prague Astronomical Clock – Also known as Prague Orloj, this is the oldest operational clock in the world. The fine detailing and grandeur, in terms of architecture of the clock never falls to attract people,
  • Churches – You can check out various churches like the St. Nicholas Church and Tyn at the square.
  • Charles Bridge – The historic Charles Bridge is an 8 minute walk from the Prague Astronomical Clock through Karlova. Though the bridge can get crowded, it gives fascinating view of the Vitava River; you can ideally go the bridge in the mornings or late evenings.

Opened in 1931, Prague Zoo is among the top five zoological gardens in the world. Some of the fascinating sights are the polar bear and fur seals.  Since Prague Zoo is located in Praha 7, and it is likely that as a visitor, you will stay in Praha 1 or Praha 2, you may have to take a cab to the zoo. This is perhaps the only time you may need to use a vehicle, if you ever decide to go to the zoo. Expect to spend the entire day at the place, because the zoological garden is quite vast.  In the evening, you can also visit the stunning ‘Trouveu Church’ which is close to the zoo.

Day 4

Visit the Petrin Tower, this is known as the Eiffel Tower of Prague.  As an observation deck and transmission tower, it is a must-visit in the city. An 18-minute walk from Petrin Tower brings you to Prague Castle, synonymous with Prague. It dates to the 9th century and definitely warrants a visit. The other places that can be clubbed together which lie very close to Prague Castle are St. Vitus Cathedral, Old Royal Palace and Lobkowicz Palace.  You can also walk along the Charles Bridge, as it is a 15 minute walk from the Prague Castle. Then you can walk towards the sprawling John Lennon Wall, which includes graffiti and lyrical pieces from Beatles tracks.

Day 5

You can visit the Vyšehrad, the historic fort, situated on the right side of Vltava River.  Dating back to the 10th century, it includes attractions like Vysehrad Cemetery, Basilica of St. Peter and St. Paul and other attractions. Vyšehrad is known to be the area where people first inhabited Prague.

As we see, ideally 3 days is enough to visit Prague, especially to visit places in Old Town Square, Wenceslas Square and Petrin tower, etc. But if you want to include the zoo and alternative places like Vysehrad or travel in a more leisured manner, then 5 days is recommended.
