Bahamas Overwater Bungalows

Overwater bungalows or villas are located above shallow waters on stilts, have thatched roofs, glass-paneled floors, private plunge pools, and offer panoramic amazing views of crystal blue waters. They are usually the epitome of relaxation and opulence and can be typically found in tourist destinations like the Maldives, Seychelles, Bora Bora, etc.

Overwater bungalows in the Bahamas was a dream up until the past few years. The main selling point of the Bahamas over the above mentioned tourist hot spots is the fact that it is about 3 hours from NYC and 45 minutes off Florida coast; this means shorter flight times for US travelers. Add this fact to the beauty of the Bahamas, its sparkling shallow waters, and remote getaway islands, then the erection of overwater bungalows in Bahamas would result in a new wave of tourism to the archipelago.

Overwater bungalows in Bahamas

There are several hotels on the water next to the Bahamas in the Caribbean, but currently only two overwater bungalow resorts are present in the Bahamas.

  1. Sandals Royal Bahamian Resort and Private Island

  • The Sandals resort in Nassau, Bahamas reopened to customers with an addition to its eclectic portfolio, i.e., five brand new overwater bungalow villas located near the private island of the resort. The 2000 square foot villa suites have already been booked for a year and half in advance. Great word of mouth reviews about the Bahamas overwater bungalows have driven relaxation seekers to get exclusive membership which offers stays in these unique overwater villas.
  • Each one of the 5 villas has been designed as per the theme of the five different elements, namely, fire, earth, metal, water, and wood. They are the outcome of 8 years of planning. Also, due to the increasing popularity of the Bahamas overwater bungalows, Sandals has decided to construct 12 additional villas over the waters.
  • The gorgeous overwater villas come with a kitchen, 24*7 butler service, expansive bathroom and bedroom, glass flooring, walk-in closet, private plunge pool, several seating places, hammock, multi-level deck at back equipped with outdoor shower, and steps that lead into the clear waters of the ocean!

  1. Deep Water Cay resort

  • The Deep Water Cay private-island resort is situated about 120 miles from Florida’s Palm Beach in the Bahamas East Grand National Park. In 2009, it was acquired/purchased by Deep Water Cay Holdings Ltd.
  • The estate comes with the current resort, 48 oceanfront private residences lots, approvals in principle for resort repositioning, and approvals in principle for another luxury hotel which would feature Bahamas overwater bungalows.
  • After restoration and new construction work is fully completed, the property would feature twenty three custom-built homes, 68 resort structures, an expanded runway on the island, and 20 overwater villas and bungalows. Of the two luxury resorts on the private island, the one with the overwater bungalows will also feature a partially overwater spa, while the other one will be designed as a Fisherman’s Village Resort.

The above two overwater bungalow resorts is just the beginning. The ever-growing popularity of such villas means that an explosion in new constructions of Bahamas overwater bungalows is inevitable!
