Croatia Waterfalls – The Best Waterfalls (with Images)

Croatia is known for its beautiful waterfalls. Plitvice lakes, a system of 16 lakes with cascading waterfalls are a sight to revel in. These lakes are known for their water of distinctive color ranging from mint green to turquoise grey and shades of blue. Croatia can also be called the ‘land of waterfalls.

Here are some of the most beautiful waterfalls in Croatia

National Park Krka Waterfalls

Hire a boat from Skradin (a little county in Croatia) near Krka River and in a matter of 20 minutes, you will reach the beautiful Krka Waterfalls. En route, you are treated to the beautiful view of the cliffs, shoes and lake with swans and birds swimming in their natural glory. Once you reach the falls, you take a beautiful walk up and near the falls with lots of photo-opportunities and mesmerizing views.

The Lower Lakes

 

It is a part of the Plitvice Lake National Park. As mentioned, there are 16 lakes as a part of the Plitvice lakes system. The lower lakes offer a picturesque view with lesser but beautiful waterfalls in various shades of green and blue.

Mali Buk

 

Mali Buk is a part of the ‘Upper Lakes’; it sees comparatively less inflow of tourists. The upper lakes are also beautiful but not as awesome as the lower lakes. The Mali Lake and the nearby waterfalls are a half-an-hour walk away the ferry terminal, which is why it is not as crowded as the lower lakes. On the plus side, there is more privacy and serenity here.

Veliki Slap

 

Veliki Slap is the highestwaterfall in the Plitvice National Park, located near entrance 1 of the National Park (at the lower end of the park). The name ‘Veliki Slap’ means ‘the great waterfall’. Needless to say, the best view is from the entrance 1. You can also come here early in the morning, when the area is less crowded. The place is haven for nature lovers.

 

One can enjoy Veliki Slap from three different ways – one is from the top at Ulz Entrance 1, which gives you a great view from the top. If you want to see the waterfall from the bottom, then you may have to walk down and wring your way through a crowd of people. There is also another angle from the top, across P3. The best view is near the entrance 1, because you can see Veliki Slap from an elevated point.

Sastavci

 

What Veliki Slap wins in height and regality, Sastavci wins in terms of beauty. There are multiple waterfalls here, each one with its own beautiful cascading effect. The best time to visit these falls is during the mornings and afternoons.

RastokeWaterfalls

 

It is a beautiful little place near Slunj City, a confluence of rivers, Korana and Slunjcica. The latter flows into the Korana river, leading to waterfalls and lakes. You can get the view of the waterfalls on the way to Plitvice National Park. There are a lot of hotels and B&B in the area, surrounded by water bodies.

Kotli

 

Kotliis located in Hum, the smallest town in the world. It is located in the central part of Istria, north-west Croatia. The river called Mirna flows through the little hamlet and creates limestone waterfalls. During the summer-time, the water becomes naturally warm rather quickly, which is perfect for tourists to swim and enjoy the therapeutic effect.
